Assembling Beekeeping Equipment Part 1 - Assembling Frames
I am planning already for my winter/ spring set up for next spring. I like to re-queen to keep a fresh queen yearly. When would I plan on grafting (from my own bees) and replace my queen and still not allow my queen to go backwards in my honey production? Would I do this before the flow (when drones are flying) or after the flow has started or when the flow is over. My flow is generally over July 4th.
Hey Paul I’m in Nova Scotia would you say running doubles is better than running singles ? I know both can be done but what would you run I keep my bees outside in poly hives
Addictive
Good work, as always!
how come I can't find part 1?
Finally some good and correct advice about how to handle this problem!
I’ve seen many of the component knots before. Lots of similarities to the truckies hitch. However, it’s fantastic to see a different real world application and the specialization for this particular application. This is one of the best knot education videos I’ve seen! Thanks for sharing.
Hi, can you please explain how to make a queen pheromone tube and how I can keep the sugar syrup fresh when working with mini nucs in 90 degree weather? Thanks
Great video. I’d like to add, if after hooking the rope loop before throwing, you can use a double half hitch with the other end of the rope to the second hook. This way you can tie both rows on the driver side. It makes for quicker tying and untying. Not as many trips back and forth around your truck to get the job done. Great video. Thank you for sharing.
If you have this type of frames why then not making it 8 way mating nucs, 5 frames in one mating nuc is kinda a lot
Really like your videos, Thank you for taking the time. I was raised just down the road in Ariss. Thanks again .
New to the wonderful world of beekeeping here in Alberta. Really, really appreciate all your content.
Possible translation into Arabic for all lessons, thank you
How are you in short lol in this Texas I’d love to be in shorts/tee doing inspections but afraid I’d get lit up by the girls.
What size do you cut the canvas? I cut to fit and it’s shrank to the point of barely covering frames
Hi, I just established four four way nucs and I got some Problems. I installed bees in them, and in some of them the bees are just dead. I don't know why. In others, they are clustering on the lid and not on my frames. I mixed up bees out of honey supers for them. I gave them virgin queens.
try 8-frame Jumbo-Langstroth hive boxes! more good for small people like your typical young bee-enthusiast student/bachelor deg./master deg. female co-worker !!
I am in Southeast Texas and was shocked recently to find 8 out of 10 frames in my super already full of capped honey. The bees worked faster than me. I found myself running here and there to get extra supplies for more suppers and another hive I captured from a swarm. I also like the concept of single brood, mainly because it takes less time inspecting...
The government should pass a law that all queen bees wear a crown so we find her easier. Subscribe.
I've used pseudoscorpions for the last four years and I don't have mites. Also I personally as a hobby beekeeper neglect my bees, by neglect I mean that I don't go into the brood box and instead of weekly checks I do monthly. Also no other beekeeper gets anywhere near my bees and if I'm going to a communal apiary then I'm not going to wear anything that is likely to come into contact with my bees. I live in the Tyne Valley in North East England. It's cold, it's permanently raining, it's always windy and my apiary sits on a North facing slope.
Nice to see how the bees are quickly interested by the cage. 🐝
Could i use this instead of apivar?
Help please, I'm moving a swarm trap across my yard. It's a solid tall box with 5 frames and a lot of bees. I closed them up last night with 2 disc entrances set with the vents open. They are only 1 inch holes with small openings for ventilation. It will be close to 100 degrees out today. Can I still leave them closed in like this for 24 hours and open them up tomorrow morning? I don't want them to overheat but I do want them to reorientate so they don't go back to the other side of my yard. Thanks in advance.
Think about overheating vs orienting. It is very easy to overheat and kill hives. It's likely too late but give the bees plenty of ventilation next time. Cheers.
@@UoGHoneyBeeResearchCentre thank you, unfortunately it was a mess. I opened it up in the middle of the day, didn't wait 24 hours, and maybe salvaged them, but not all. Hard lesson learned 😥
Hello Paul, Do you have any video regarding the demaree method?… if so what is the link? Thank you
Hi There No we don't use that method so haven't done a video on the topic.
Where did you buy your mini nucs from I’ve been looking everywhere and trying to find the best price so far Amazon but a lot of them don’t have many reviews
See our FAQ here hbrc.ca/faq/ but Mann Lake in the US is our supplier. They are also available in Europe from other suppliers. I don't know where you live.
Great information!!
Thanks!
How is it that swarms can draw comb so fast and efficiently because only the very young bee’s secret wax correct?… and the very young bee’s are not swarming… mainly the foragers are leaving the hive with Queen correct? Thank you, Dave from WV and OH
Your the best, very clear, really stung me this video ❤❤
Working an active bed hive in shorts?? Keep an EpiPen at the ready??
I think this is my 3rd time watching this, I look for refreshers every year, lol. We witnessed some robbing behavior yesterday after I shook bees down out of supers. I obviously caused alot of confusion, but thats not something I've seen before when shaking bees down.
I believe that any program should include the help to bumblebee so the transmission of mites in decreased.
Do you have a problem with moisture?in ky I use quilt boxes to help control moisture.just wondering!!
Once again, thank you for your well done videos. I have been very successful in raising queens this year and have more than enough queens cells to put into only a few mating nucs. How would I go about selecting the best 10 cells from the 40 cells available? Is there some characteristic of the queen cell that would indicate the health of the queen inside. I also wonder if those cells covered in bees on the graft frame indicate a better queen than those less covered. Thanks again
Genuine question, why not wear breathing and eye PPE?
Im a firm believer “less interference” and doing anything possible to help create an increase of Propolis amongst the hives. I started experimenting with log hives a few years ago. The log hive bees produced more propolis and honestly just look way healthier and are more active. I will always believe that Propolis production is a cure all for what ales bees.
📃 And your Lord has inspired the bees to build dwellings in the mountains and in the trees and in what they erect, so follow humbly the paths of your Lord and eat of all the fruits from their bellies comes a drink of various colors, in which. there is healing for people. Indeed, this is a sign for a people who reflect 📃

I want to build my beehive how can i get the queen from Nigeria 🇳🇬
The quiet start made end up blasting my eardrums!!!!😅
When can you harvest the honey after the spring treatment?
Paul, could you please explain using canvas as a intercover. As the canvas will shrink with use what size do you start with and is it prewashed so as to prevent it from shrinking? Enjoy your videos.
to split swarm, take two broods each with five frames on righthand side, all frames worked out and full of brood .Brake in half and take brood with queen, FAR AWAY. And that's it. Me beekeeping since 1959 . Thank you.
Do you guys by chance have any online honeybee courses? That I can take ? I just got a major back surgery and would love to learn all I can while I am bed bound
Can I use lavender smoke
How are you and Brooke not getting stung?! Or are you?
I came back here looking for you. I haven't seen a video from you this spring. I really hope you will continue making great videos as you have in the past.
I will truly never understand people that can do this without a vail or gloves. I'm so scared of the bees I have a full on bee suite when I help my brother. We aren't good at fibding our queens at all so I sm hoping to get some practice but looking at pics and trying to find her
ua-cam.com/video/nareNU0oh9s/v-deo.htmlsi=UNVpcnXsXy3JfrdY Natural escaping from the hive!
It seems you are using a medical scissor type. Can you provide a detailed description or a link to the scissors you use. That would be helpful since hundreds exist: suture, bandage, surgical, ...
Will bees go through a queen excluded to make wax? I have been told that they will not and that I must get the comb drawn before adding the excluder.
